TBA reading 11.21

Remember that we are meeting in the library this Tuesday. Here's some essays on various Bieber-related controversies and related issues over the past year or so. It's been a busy year for him, and each faux-pas spawns a wave of intellectual discussions. It is simply a matter of knowing how and where to look for them.

This piece offers a (somewhat snarky) general rundown and analysis of Bieber's biography. This piece offers a muted defense of Bieber in the wake of his much-maligned Anne Frank comments, and this offers a rumination on his fame in light of the controversy (it also invalidates the claim in the previous piece that there is no annotated list of the film stars on Frank's wall--the internet truly is the most potent intellectual force in human history).

Oh, and just to underscore that one can talk about anything in an intelligent way, here is an extensive profile in The New Yorker of the executive who discovered and developed the Bieber brand. And you thought that you picked the easy one this week!
